Scandalicious is my favourite breakfast/brunch restaurant in Vancouver, hands down. Judging by the line-up of people every time we’re there, it’s clear this is an East Van hotspot.
If you’re looking for gluten-free waffles, there is little reason to look elsewhere. The Wallflower has a couple of gluten-free waffle dishes on their menu, but nothing like the selection you will find at Scandalicious. Furthermore, they are the first restaurant in Vancouver to offer a vegan waffle – although the best part of the Scandalicious experience, for me, is having my waffle smothered in poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.
That’s right, you get eggs benedict on a waffle! And not just plain old ham and eggs, though that’s available if you want something plain and easy on the stomach– it’s called it the Hang Over Helper. For those feeling more adventurous, you can get your benny with smoked salmon, artichokes, or shrimp – to name just a few ingredients.
If for some reason you still have room after your epic breakfast, Scandalicious also has a selection of 7 dessert waffles. Or, if you want toast but, you know, better, then grab yourself a PB & J waffle to take your peanut butter and jam experience to the next level.
Waffles not your thing? That’s ok too. Although I can’t understand why you wouldn’t eat a waffle if you could, Scandalicious also offers omelettes, gluten-free and vegan bakery items (they have cream filled donuts…just saying), and burgers.
There’s a lot going on at this little restaurant. And it is little. Tables can be hard to come by, especially on the weekend after noon when the party people start waking up. But even if you have to wait, your stomach will thank you later.
Scandalicious is not a dedicated gluten-free facility. If you love gluten, this restaurant can accommodate you too!
